About Hoopla

we’re in the business of storytelling.

Working with our clients from start to finish, we use video, animation, sound design and sometimes a little movie magic to create captivating, professional video content that engages the audience from the first frame to the last.

We’re a full service production company, offering a range of services that are tailored to each project. From clean and simple corporate videos to full production advertising campaigns, we’re a small and mighty team that scales to meet our clients needs.

Located in Edmonton, Alberta Canada, Hoopla is owned and operated by Colleen Nuc and Amy McBain. With over 25 combined years of experience in video production, communications, advertising and marketing, Colleen and Amy have worked all over western Canada creating content for clients big and small.

Colleen Nuc - Creative Director, Director, Producer, Post Production

As Hoopla’s creative director, Colleen is responsible for making sure whatever we’re doing is visually impactful, tells a story, and stands out against the relentless noise we all face in today’s marketing. She has a remarkable talent for putting people who have never sat in front of a camera at ease and drawing emotions they didn’t even know they had out. She’s also been known to stuff her face with cheesies to get a point across. This all translates into compelling, emotionally charged videos that resonate with audiences. Colleen is also the editor in chief at Hoopla. She manages all of our post production, spending hours locked in a dark room scrubbing through footage to build unforgettable stories through dynamic videos.

Colleen’s a St. Albert ex-pat, living in Edmonton with her young family and the adorable Walter, their faithful canine companion.

Amy McBain - Client Relations, Strategy, Producer, Production Management

Often described as a tyrant (by Colleen), Amy is manages all of the work at Hoopla. She is likely the first person you’ll chat with about a project, working with you through scoping and budgets to the final delivery. She brings a unique perspective to the work, having spent the first decade of her career working in public relations, strategic communications and marketing. All this means is Amy is likely to ask you “who is your audience and what is the key message” before she asks what your budget is or what you’re looking for. She also manages all our productions, from shoot schedules to booking talent to closing highways if needed, she’s a meticulous planner and is well known for being the "one who orders lunch” on set.

She lives in central Edmonton with her cute but exhausting kids and partner. When she’s not managing the lives of everyone around her, you can often find her meddling in local politics.
